Rosaleen writes: This is the postcard that my grandpa Eric dropped from what was presumably his first solo trip during his training as a kite balloon observer. He requests Will finder kindly post. Date of finding. The postmark shows that it was found the very day it was dropped, 10 May 1917, and posted from St Albans to his parents, Harry and Fannie, in Cheadle Hulme.

Here, I think it’s Arch pouring the tea (or gin). It’s definitely Mary standing, possibly Nell in the flowery hat but the identities of the man in the panama and the woman in the white bonnet are a mystery.

I can’t identify everyone in this picture but I think it’s Mary in the spotty bow tie, Arch in the straw boater and Jack standing with his arms crossed.
